Vintage “Etruscan Revival” Triple Drop Earrings Attributed to Mitchel Maer For Dior

£385.00

These beautiful “Etruscan Revival” style triple drop clip-on earrings features soft delicate pastel hues of aqua, yellow and white foiled back pastes set in gilded gold base metal.  The stones in these earrings are claw set and have a wonderful subtle combination of colours with a vibrancy and sparkle that are not only beautiful but are simply mesmerising to behold.  These earrings are a classic design by Mitchel Maer for Christian Dior and date from the mid 1950s.  Although these earrings do not have the usual plaque marked for Christian Dior by Mitchel Maer (as during the period of liquidation of the Mitchel Maer company they had to remove any such plaques) they are however attributed to Mitchel Maer for Dior.  On the back of one earring it shows the remnant of where the plaque was subsequently removed.

In the early 1950’s American born Mitchel Maer settled in England and started his own jewellery manufacturing business.  From about 1952-1956 Mitchel Maer was commissioned by the house of Christian Dior to design and create wonderful pieces of jewellery for them. During this short period he designed and created the most exquisite pieces of jewellery which have now become very sought after by collectors and those that have come to admire and love his designs.  Unfortunately, with Mitchel Maer suffering from financial difficulties this sadly led to his company ultimately going into insolvency – very little is known about this designer following the demise of his company.  However, there is no doubt that Mitchel Maer left his legacy as a fantastic jewellery designer who created some of the most unique and outstanding jewellery of the 195o’s era.
